In memoriam: Jan Dlask

It is with great sadness that we have learned the news that our dear colleague Jan Dlask was among the victims of the shootings at the Charles University in Prague on December 21.
Jan Dlask, an esteemed member of the International Organization of Scandinavian Studies (IASS), was shot while lecturing on Finnish contemporary literature at the Faculty of Arts, Charles university in Prague. He died of his injuries later in the hospital.

There were 14 casualties of the mass shootings, mostly students and two faculty members. One of these members was Jan Dlask: https://fin.ff.cuni.cz/cs/ustavkatedra/jan-dlask/

Jan Dlask was a member of the Finnish section of the Department of Germanic Studies. Besides Finnish, he had also studied Swedish and his research specialization was Finnish-Swedish or Fenno-Swedish literature. Jan Dlask was a respected and active participant in the IASS conferences. He was an outstanding scholar and published extensively on Finnish, Finnish-Swedish, minority literature and literary history amongst others.

The International Organization of Scandinavian Studies (IASS) sends sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Jan Dlask.
