Call for Papers: Special Issue Scandinavian Studies – Tove Ditlevsen Today

The special issue of Scandinavian Studies invites submissions exploring Tove Ditlevsen Today. 

Fifty years after her death, Tove Ditlevsen is being rediscovered and celebrated as a canonical figure in world literature, a precursor of 21st century autofiction and as one of the most important voices in 20th century Nordic literature.

This special issue, edited by Marianne Stecher Hansen (University of Washington) and Torben Jelsbak (University of Copenhagen), will explore the dynamics and perspectives of the present rediscovery and recanonization of Ditlevsen’s work. Why has Ditlevsen now gained such prominence? What aspects of her work resonate with the literary tastes and cultural sensibilities of today’s readers? And how is Ditlevsen read today?

The editors encourage submissions from a broad spectrum of areas, disciplines and theoretical approaches, including (but not limited to):

• Aesthetics and modernism
• Autofiction and writing the self
• Discourse analysis and intertextuality 
• Feminism and gender studies
• Materialism and cultural history 
• Social class representation and urban studies

• Translation theory and practice 

To join this investigation submit a 300-word proposal by 1 December 2026 to the co-editors of this special issue: Torben Jelsbak (tjelsbak@hum.ku.dk) and Marianne Stecher Hansen (marianne@uw.edu).
