About CSS

The Centre for Scandinavian Studies – Lund University (CSS) is an international research community with the overarching goal of increasing connections and collaborations between the international world of Scandinavian Studies and the Nordic world of national-oriented humanities.

The Centre for Scandinavian Studies – Lund University is based on a close collaboration with its newly appointed International Board, featuring representatives from departments of Scandinavian Studies in Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Germany,  Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, United Kingdom, France, Italy, USA, Canada, South Korea and Japan, as well as international organizations for promoting Nordic research and education, as International Association for Scandinavian Studies (IASS), Society for Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS), the Swedish Institute (SI) and Samarbetsnämnden för Nordenundervisning I utlandet (SNU)

Our overarching goal is to increase connections and collaborations between the international world of Scandinavian Studies and the Nordic world of national-oriented humanities.

To achieve this we arrange conferences, lecture series and other events to build research networks and international communities. We have created a news portal for the field – IWCSS – and we continually produce open access publications with contributions from scholars around the world. We are also involved in non-academic projects where expertise in the Nordic languages and culture may be of use to the society at large.
