The Scandinavian Research Centre at Hankuk University, Seoul, Korea, in collaboration with the Centre for Scandinavian Studies at Lund University, Sweden, calls for papers for inclusion in a research anthology on the theme "Scandinavian Literature in Asia". The deadline for first drafts is September 1, 2024.

Scandinavian Research Centre at Hankuk University, Seoul, Korea, in collaboration with Centre for Scandinavian Studies at Lund University, Sweden, hereby wish to invite you to contribute to a research anthology on the theme Scandinavian Literature in Asia.

The call aims to the production of an open access digital anthology, published as the first issue in a brand-new research publication series from the Scandinavian Research Centre at Hankuk University, Seoul. We are, furthermore, currently exploring the possibility of simultaneously making this anthology available in the form of a grand physical volume. The anthology will be distributed all over the world, through our extensive networks in Korea, Japan and Scandinavia. In other words, the anthology presents a golden opportunity for you to bring your research to international attention.

The scope of the theme may include but is not limited to contributions on:

  • Comparative studies of Scandinavian literature and its influence in Asian literary contexts.

  • Analyses of transformations and reception of Scandinavian authors in Asia.

  • Examination of Asian influences in modern Scandinavian literature.

  • Cross-cultural studies focusing on thematic parallels in Scandinavian and Asian literature.

  • Historical perspectives on the exchange of literary ideas between Scandinavia and Asia.

The work will be led by editors Jai-Ung Hong (Seoul) and Isak Hyltén-Cavallius (Lund), while Anders Mortensen (Lund), Robert Zola Christensen (Lund/Seoul) and Lauritz Korfix Schultz (Osaka) will function as an editorial committee. Isak Hyltén-Cavallius will also fill the role as secretary and will be glad to receive any questions (to e-mail address isak.hylten-cavallius@litt.lu.se) as the work proceeds.

Deadline for first drafts is September 1, 2024. Articles should be written in English and no shorter than 30.000 and should not exceed 40.000 characters including spaces (excluding notes and bibliography). Footnotes and bibliography (no in-text citation), both closely following the Chicago Manual of Style, are mandatory. Instructions are found here: The Chicago Manual of Style Online

All contributions will be subject to a process of editorial selection by the editors and editorial committee; selected contributions will then be subject to double blind review by two peers before final selection, editing and publication.

Best regards, editors:

Jai-Ung Hong and Isak Hyltén-Cavallius
